My Top 5 Video Games of 2016

Another year down, more video games to countdown. There was plenty to play in the year of 2016, but unfortunately I cannot play them all. Here are 5 of my most definite favorites though. Lets start with some honorable mentions:

Street Fighter V: Street Fighter V just missed the cut because it got off to a rough start. It got pushed out to the public a bit early and ultimately was an unfinished product. Capcom has been working hard to fix some of the issues with it and its now shaping up to be a pretty great game. The future of Street Fighter V is looking bright.

Dark Souls 3: I’ve never been that big of a fan of this series, but I was able to have quite a bit of fun with DS3. It wont make me like the Souls games over Bloodborne though. Still hoping a sequel will be made.

And the FINAL honorable mention goes to Final Fantasy XV. FFXV is a fantastic game, but it left more to be desired from me. We do know that Square-Enix has future DLC plans for the game, which is exciting.

Now for the Top 5:

5. Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 is a big improvement over it’s predecessor. Giving pilots abilities so they won’t have to be so dependent on their Titans is a major improvement. Titanfall 2 also features a fantastic new single player campaign, something the first Titanfall did not have. A must play if you are a fan of first person shooters.

4. Pokemon Sun and Moon

Pokemon Sun and Moon is the best looking Pokemon game to date. This entry to the series also makes a number of changes. Having trials instead of gym battles being the biggest change. It will be interesting to see where the Pokemon games go from here.

3. Hyper Light Drifter

Hyper Light Drifter is a well done action rpg that features challenging combat and beautiful pixelated graphics. The game is a homage to old school 8-bit and 16-bit games like The Legend of Zelda. It was definitely a blessing that Hyper Light Drifter got its time to shine in 2016. A must play indeed.

2. Fire Emblem Fates

Fire Emblems Fates spans over 3 separate games to tell about the great war between the Nohr and the Hoshido. Fates features some tight tactical strategy gameplay and a fantastic story that will tug on your heart strings a bit. It’s not quite as good as FE: Awakening is, but it’s a must play, indeed.

Game of the year: Overwatch

overwatch

I’m sure this is no surprise. Overwatch has finished 1st on just about everybody’s game of the year list. The gameplay is just flat out fun, maps are well designed, and it features a growing roster of diverse characters. Blizzard is continuously adding new content and listening to its player base as well. With so much continuous support, I feel like it’s safe to say that Overwatch will only get better from here on out.
